Welcome to the Joe's Garlic website! My 2024 price list has been updated and there are seven varieties of garlic for sale. I hope to share garlic tips and recipes, along with photos of the growing and harvesting processes.

Varieties

For the summer 2024 harvest I will have seven varieties of garlic. German Red is new this year! Here's some information about each type.

All varieties are hardneck garlic. This means that when they're growing, they have a scape that produces a flower. The scapes are actually cut off before flowering to make the bulbs grow larger. Chefs favor hardneck garlics because they have exceptional flavor and large, easy-to-peel bulbs.

Hot, Strong-Flavored Gourmet Garlic

Rocambole Family

Spanish Roja

This variety originated in Spain and is considered the truest form of garlic. Contains eight to twelve cloves per bulb. Flavor is considered strong, hot and robust. When cooked, particularly roasted it will develop a sweet, deep, rich and complex flavor. Cloves are easy to peel.

German Red

A good-tasting garlic with large bulbs. Each bulb contains about 9 cloves. German Red is easy to peel, can be used raw, sautéed, or roasted, and is spicy with a bold taste.

Porcelain Family

German White

This garlic is known by other names including German Extra-Hardy, Northern White, and German Stiffneck.  Contains 4 to 6 large cloves per bulb.  Bulbs can grow to 2” or more in diameter.  Great keepers, will store for up to 8 to 9 months when stored properly.  Great for cooking, produces a very flavorful gentle taste when cooked.  Great for pestos, pastas, sauces, and roasting.
